I started in Dec 2014. Here's a list of mechanical problems with the 2005 Freightliner Columbia.
1. truck won't start. turn key and wouldn't start. I used a long screw driver to do the "spark thing" to bypass faulty ignition switch. he put a push button switch in.
2. drive tire blow out. destroys mud flap & bracket too.
3. trlr tire flat. and another trlr tire has a deep slit on inside wall. an inch deep.
4. brackets on trk side wind fairing break. fairing flapping in the wind. two days later the cb antenna falls off, somewhere in Nashville.
5. both headlights give constant problems.
6. trlr air bags suspension went flat. a bolt fell out.
7. exhaust pipes & system. break in two. he welds good & replaces parts. pipe is still broken. and clamp lost one nut!
8. air cond hose leaking somewhere. I keep putting freon every couple days. for the past two months. he replaced ac filter and regular air filter not long ago in brookings, sd.
9. windshield cracked top to bottom. for a month now.
10 drive tire wheel seal broke. $575 for repair trk to come and fix. dot out of svc.
11 blue air line valve gone bad. trk leaks air when press brakes at stop lights!
12 electrical cord replaced.
13 no holder for load locks, no holder for spare tire and no holder for air lines & Elec cord.
14 fire ext old, need newer one. got new one but too big for holder. dot warn 3 times. last dot said use a bungee cord to hold it to bracket.
15 fuel line at engine breaks. fuel spewing all over engine compartment.
16 I broke curtain inside by storing load locks in cab, cuz no holder outside. risk losing them in trlr by having to remove them all the time for loading.
17 I bumped side of trlr dmg metal. he fixed it very good.
18 for a long time a battle has been fought with the trlr lights! he's been fixing them for several months now.
19 no fridge or large inverter for one. his cooler plug melted down after a couple weeks use.
20 mattress has some blood or something, stain. I flipped it and washed it a lot. I keep washing the mattress.
21 radiator hose sprung a leak. had to fix it in ga I think. and shop tried but failed to fix or diagnose air cond problem.
22 had oil changed twice, and pm. no tire or wheel, or brake problems found or caught with last pm svc?!
23 dot caught steer wheel needs lube. got both steer wheels done, about a month ago.
24 batteries wore down. replaced one. not bolted down tight enough and trk shut off while driving full speed down I 70 in Joplin, MO.
25 battery box step was missing and he replaced it.
26 marker lights on trk sun visor went out. he fixed & replaced them.
27 the first day of being in the trk, huge oil leak. dot spill type violation leak. took to freightliner in Illinois and they had to make a new bigger screw hole for a bigger screw cuz the other screw wore out & wouldn't hold well.
28 previous driver smashed both side wind fairings on trk, and scraped up the sides of both fenders. makes trk look junky.
29 tires are always a issue. old ones on trk & trlr. he has replaced several. most of them look a little ragged. so far they've had enough tread to barely legally pass dot inspections.
30 been put out of svc by dot in mo for air leaks trk & trlr and brake adj issues with trk & trlr. been dot inspected three times in 6 months.
31 no power mirrors or power windows. bummer. now that's going old school! he does allow dogs.
this is a old trk & seems to not be taking the rigors of the road too well. many old, rusty parts would need to be replaced to raise the safety & quality standards of this trk.
this is just so far. I'll write more if I remember anything.
